Green Steel

It is estimated that steel produces 7-9% of all CO2 emissions on the planet.

Every government and every steel mill has been promoting a strong reduction of emissions in the next years on a road to zero emissions. The GHG (GreenHouse Gas) emission protocol has fixed 3 different kind of emissions that must be analyzed and controlled and reduced by every company:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions — controlled or owned by a company
  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions — coming from the purchased electricity
  • Scope 3: Indirect emissions — all emissions generated by the supply chain

This is the Green Deal, that in the European Community is even stronger as there is the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).

EMC has understood the necessity to contain and reduce its emissions and decided to commit itself to the production of a green ERW steel pipe.

EMC decided to create a dedicated team. Members of the team will take care of the CBAM, others of the GHG Protocol.

The scope is to have a dedicated prodcution line to the green steel welded pipes.

Raw material must come from sources that can certify their Carbon footprint, and moreover from the ones that will provide green steel coils.

The electricity used to weld the pipes will come form photovoltaic panels or will be bought just from suppliers who can use renewables.

This is the Green Deal, that in the European Community is even stronger as there is the CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism).
